Things to Do

There are plenty of things to do and see around Buckden, whether you're into hiking, climbing, cycling, pony trekking or simply strolling and enjoying the views, there are routes for you to explore. There are also lots of local events and festivals to join in and delicious local food to try!

Cycling in the Dales

Scenic and challenging cycle routes from family-oriented mountain biking to the Tour-de-France legacy. At West Winds we are able to offer secure overnight bike storage.

Local Walks

Superb scenic walks of varying lengths from our doorstep. Climb fells, walk along the riverside, explore old churches or enjoy local produce in village coffee shops and pubs. Birds and wildlife, spring lambs and wildflowers aplenty.

Long Distance Hiking Trails

Buckden is a stopping off point in the early stages of The Dales Way, Wainwright’s Pennine Journey, the Inn Way and Lady Anne’s Way.

Hawes in Wensleydale

Drive up Langstrothdale and over the tops into Hawes. Visit the Creamery, the Ropemakers and the Dales Countryside Museum. Take the Little White Bus to Snaizeholme to see the red squirrels.

Stargazing

Buckden National Park car park is an internationally recognised Dark Sky Reserve. See up to 2,000 stars on a clear night, glimpse the International Space Station or watch the August Perseid Meteor shower.

Local Festivals and Events

Grassington Arts Festival & Buckden Gala are in June. Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival is in August; Kilnsey Show and Grassington 1940s Weekend in September. See Links for details.
